This is a site that is new to me. I've just recently checked it out over the weekend and I have to say it's quite addicting. While there aren't a huge assortment of games (only 3), you do get money for winning, so it keeps my attention.

You start out with 1 cent, courtesy of Moola. Then you play games to move up levels. Every time you win, you can double your money. It may not seem like alot but double $1 ten times.... = $1024!! Not bad for starting with nothing. Now don't get me wrong, it's not that easy. You win some, you lose some.

Ok, so I am repeatedly being asked for this information, so it's time to spill. With all of the so-called mystery shopping companies out there, it's really hard to find reputable companies to work for. I'll let you in on a little secret... 90% of the companies that want you to pay to mystery shop are not actually "scams", but they are definately "scamsters". By this, I mean that you could get mystery shopping jobs from them, but you don't need them to get shopping jobs. What they have done is actually pretty intelligent, from a scamming point of view. They build a site, gain access to the mystery shopping companies that do not charge shoppers, they compile the information and update it regularly, and then they charge you for their "services". How nice of them, don't you think?

Well, you don't have to deal with them, and you don't have to pay to mystery shop. I'm sure you're reading this to find out how to get started, so let's do just that. Keep in mind that you do need patience for these jobs, since the paperwork is sometimes tedious. All in all, the paperwork is worse than the jobs themselves. But if you don't mind a little paperwork, this line of work can prove prosperous. Here's a few tips to get started:

1. Start with the companies that I have listed below. I am not an affiliate in any way and do not profit from your sign-up. I work for them myself and know that I am sending you in the right direction.

2. Sign up for as many companies as you can. This is where I just about lost my mind. Filling out forms stinks, but it's worth it in the end. These jobs pay anywhere from $3 to $200, but most are in the lower end of that range. The more companies you apply for, the more jobs that are available to you in your immediate area, and the less driving expenses you will pay. Keep it local.

3. Do a good job. Most of these companies have rating systems. The more quality work you do, the more jobs they'll approve you for. Each company has different qualifications, so be sure to read what they expect from you. If it's not a possibility for you, don't accept or apply for the job.

4. Stay organized. Working for several different companies can be quite a task when it comes to the paperwork. Get a binder and get separaters for each company. This makes life as a mystery shopper a lot easier to manage.

START WITH THESE COMPANIES: Please keep in mind that some companies only focus on certain geographical areas. If you sign up for a company, and see that they don't ever have work in your area, stop wasting your time looking.

A. Criny.com : This company focuses mostly on theatre checks, merchandising assignments, and some mystery shopping. They pay on time, all the time, and also have a decent flow of new jobs.

B. Ritter & Associates : This company focuses mostly on gas station audits. They are simple and quick; exactly what to look out for.

C. Sassie Shopper.com : This is the big enchilada. This company does all the recruiting and work for smaller mystery shopping companies. Starting with this company can be irritating because they have different sub-sites for all of the companies. Therefore, you have to sign up for each one individually. Spend a day taking care of all that, and then you're good to go with endless shopping opportunities. See below for the best way to manage this site.

D. Jobslinger.com : This site is the key. It's not a mystery shopping company. It's more of a job board. They are similar, in a way, to those companies that want you to pay to shop because they compile the companies and make it easy for the shopper. The only difference is that they don't make you pay for it! Sassie Shopper jobs are posted all over this site, and it's much easier to apply through Jobslinger.com than it is to apply through the Sassie Shopper site itself. Create an account with Jobslinger.com and begin searching. Every time you find something that you are interested in, it will prompt you to sign up for that company if you have not already done so. This is time consuming, but you only have to do it once. After you have signed up for the company, the next job that you apply for will only ask you for a email address and password. I suggest that you use the same login info for all sites. Most of them will be for Sassy Shopper anyways. This site alone has enough jobs to keep you busy.

5. Tag Your Content-

Technorati is the first place that you should be tagging posts. I actually recommend having the tags right on your page, pointing to the Technorati searches that you're targeting. There are other good places to ping - del.icio.us and Flickr being the two most obvious (the only other one is Blogmarks, which is much smaller). Tagging content can also be valuable to help give you a "bump" towards getting traffic from big sites like Reddit, Digg & StumbleUpon (which requires that you download the toolbar, but trust me - it's worth it). You DO NOT want to submit every post to these sites, but that one out of twenty (see tactic #18) is worth your while.-

6. Launch Without Comments (and Add Them Later)-

There's something sad about a blog with 0 comments on every post. It feels dead, empty and unpopular. Luckily, there's an easy solution - don't offer the ability to post comments on the blog and no one will know that you only get 20 uniques a day. Once you're upwards of 100 RSS subscribers and/or 750 unique visitors per day, you can open up the comments and see light activity. Comments are often how tech-savvy new visitors judge the popularity of a site (and thus, its worth), so play to your strengths and keep your obscurity private.-

7. Don't Jump on the Bandwagon-

Some memes are worthy of being talked about by every blogger in the space, but most aren't. Just because there's huge news in your industry or niche DOES NOT mean you need to be covering it, or even mentioning it (though it can be valuable to link to it as an aside, just to integrate a shared experience into your unique content). Many of the best blogs online DO talk about the big trends - this is because they're already popular, established and are counted on to be a source of news for the community. If you're launching a new blog, you need to show people in your space that you can offer something unique, different and valuable - not just the same story from your point of view. This is less important in spaces where there are very few bloggers and little online coverage and much more in spaces that are overwhelmed with blogs (like search, or anything else tech-related).-

8. Link Intelligently-

When you link out in your blog posts, use convention where applicable and creativity when warranted, but be aware of how the links you serve are part of the content you provide. Not every issue you discuss or site you mention needs a link, but there's a fine line between overlinking and underlinking. The best advice I can give is to think of the post from the standpoint of a relatively uninformed reader. If you mention Wikipedia, everyone is familar and no link is required. If you mention a specific page at Wikipedia, a link is necessary and important. Also, be aware that quoting other bloggers or online sources (or even discussing their ideas) without linking to them is considered bad etitquette and can earn you scorn that could cost you links from those sources in the future. It's almost always better to be over-generous with links than under-generous. And link condoms? Only use them when you're linking to something you find truly distasteful or have serious apprehension about.

1. Choose the Right Blog Software (or Custom Build)

The right blog CMS makes a big difference. If you want to set yourself apart, I recommend creating a custom blog solution - one that can be completely customized to your users. In most cases, WordPress, Blogger, MovableType or Typepad will suffice, but building from scratch allows you to be very creative with functionality and formatting. The best CMS is something that's easy for the writer(s) to use and brings together the features that allow the blog to flourish. Think about how you want comments, archiving, sub-pages, categorization, multiple feeds and user accounts to operate in order to narrow down your choices. OpenSourceCMS is a very good tool to help you select a software if you go that route.-

2. Host Your Blog Directly on Your Domain (even though I don't.. what can I say? I don't like moving)

Hosting your blog on a different domain from your primary site is one of the worst mistakes you can make. A blog on your domain can attract links, attention, publicity, trust and search rankings - by keeping the blog on a separate domain, you shoot yourself in the foot. From worst to best, your options are - Hosted (on a solution like Blogspot or Wordpress), on a unique domain (at least you can 301 it in the future), on a subdomain (these can be treated as unique from the primary domain by the engines) and as a sub-section of the primary domain (in a subfolder or page - this is the best solution).-

3. Write Title Tags with Two Audiences in Mind

First and foremost, you're writing a title tag for the people who will visit your site or have a subscription to your feed. Title tags that are short, snappy, on-topic and catchy are imperative. You also want to think about search engines when you title your posts, since the engines can help to drive traffic to your blog. A great way to do this is to write the post and the title first, then run a few searches at Overture, WordTracker & KeywordDiscovery to see if there is a phrasing or ordering that can better help you to target "searched for" terms.-

4.Participate at Related Forums & Blogs

Whatever industry or niche you're in, there are bloggers, forums and an online community that's already active. Depending on the specificity of your focus, you may need to think one or two levels broader than your own content to find a large community, but with the size of the participatory web today, even the highly specialized content areas receive attention. A great way to find out who these people are is to use Technorati to conduct searches, then sort by number of links (authority). Del.icio.us tags are also very useful in this process, as are straight searches at the engines (Ask.com's blog search in particular is of very good quality).

I could be wrong. Perhaps I haven't done enough research, but in my experience with these websites, there is no money to be made. If there are some companies out there that are worth-while, somebody please clue me in. I have signed up for just about every FREE survey site there is, only to waste my time turning down their sponsors "offers". I'm sorry, but I'm not signing up for Netflix so I can make $2. I've also decided that a good majority of the sites that do the pre-screening surveys are just ripping you off. You take that survey for free, then once they have information, you don't qualify for the "real" survey. I don't think so, because I can't tell you one time that I've qualified and I'm not a freakin' alien. PLEASE. If anyone has had a legitimate business interaction with a survey site, I WANT TO KNOW!!

How to Make Money from Blogging

I know I've thrown a few things out there on how to make money from blogging, but really didn't specify that. So even though this is a little a$$ backwards, I'm going to give the run-down on the different ways you can profit from blogging.

1. Pay per click programs: (See Google Adsense posting) You will most likely not get rich, but you can make a decent amount of money doing this. Advertising can be prosperous. Such companies are Google adsense, Bidvertiser, and a few others.

2. Blogging Opportunity Sites: (See PayPerPost posting) You can make alot of money with sites like these. You are advertising for companies by submitting postings in your blog instead of ads. There are several of them out there such as, Bloggingads.com, Printnpost.com, Weblogs.com, and Socialspark.com.

3. Sites that pay to display their banner or ads: There are some companies that will pay you to put their advertisement on your blog....clicks or no clicks. There is usually a monthly fee that is agreed upon. This can be nice, though these companies are harder to find, and you also need to have a decent PR in order for them to want to be on your blog. Good luck with this one, but the opportunity does exist.

4. Affiliate links: You can set up an account with Paydotcom.com or Clickbank.com and choose products or services to promote. You put the link on your blog, and if someone that uses your link purchases the product, you are paid a commision.

There are other ways, but I'm still investigating them so that I can assure proper information. If you have any questions, or would like to add anything to the list, let me know!

New Site! Social Spark

SOCIAL SPARK

Looks like Izea (of PayPerPost, etc) has released a new product/service called SocialSpark. It’s currently in Alpha, invite-only stage. But, you can request to be sent information on its updates.
Anyway, I received my invite a couple of days ago and just registered today. I had a quick look and basically, it looks like it’s simply a hybrid of PayPerPost. However, according to Izea’s release:

“SocialSpark has some important differentiators from PayPerPost:

1. All links are no-follow, fully search engine compliant and must carry in-post disclosure.

2. SocialSpark offers display ads as well as Sponsored Posts.

3. Greatly expanded reporting capabilities and blog analytics.

4. Ability to have bloggers or advertisers initiate a transaction.

5. Social networking tools to foster communities and conversation.”

So far, I haven’t heard a lot of buzz on this at the moment. It’ll be interesting to find out what folks will say about this new advertising/blogging marketplace.

I’m also curious about the name, “SocialSpark” - it makes me think that this will eventually venture in to creating money making opportunities in various social networking sites. What do you think?

PPC websites can be a steady stream of income, but don't expect to get rich off of them. Not unless you find a really good one with a deep referral system, meaning that you make commission off of several levels under you. You may only generate 10 cents per day on your own, but if you build your referrals and your refferals build refferals, and their referrals build referrals... well, you get the picture. You can have some money rolling in that you didn't even work for.

Getting referrals is not easy, but it's not a difficult tasks either. This is were marketing comes in to play. Sell the site. If you are a blogger, add their widget to your site. Everyone is looking for a way to make money online, so why not show them how.

You might want to sign up for about 3 or 4 different sites at a time, in order to generate more income. Really, it will only take you about 10 minutes per site, since they usually run about 10 ads each for you to click on. This is minimal work people. You just have to be choosy about which PPC sites you choose, and you may sign up for a few bad ones before you find the good ones. You don't want to do surveys or complete "offers" to earn cash. You want to click ads, and some PPC sites will sell you that, then once you sign up it's a different story. Don't get frustrated and give up. They are out there. I'll give you a link to one I use. They combined several other sites, so you can choose as many as you want. It makes the whole process less tedious. There are some sites on there that are no good, it's not fool-proof, but they have the good ones too.
